Niko vs Wind

A solo kite trip from Pirna to the Adriatic and home again — a fortnight of wind, water, coffee, and slow coastline.

Prologue

Before the trip: why Montenegro, and why kite

The first chapter starts at home in Pirna, long before the coast shows up. Why I went alone, what made a long sandy beach in Montenegro worth the trains, and how I talked myself into a sport that picks fights with the weather.

The trip in one paragraph

Pirna to Dortmund for a work stop, then Köln and the flight to Podgorica. A week on Velika Plaža learning to kite without becoming news. A handful of days along the coast at Kotor and Budva. Then the long way home through Berlin, with photos, salt in the camera bag, and dignity mostly intact.

Chapters

Three chapters.

The trip splits into three: getting there (trains, a German detour, a midnight flight), the kite week, and the slow coastal road home. Each one gets its own page; the diary fills in the days between.

The map

Pirna to the Adriatic, and back.

A pencil sketch of Europe with the route marked in. The pins change colour as the trip unfolds — planned, here now, visited, plan changed.

From the diary

The latest day on the road.

The diary lands here as the trip happens. Short notes from the day, usually a photo, written down before I fell asleep.
