A predawn taxi out of Budva, the airport while it’s still cool, a short flight north, and then the day comes apart into pieces: a midday landing in Berlin, a small errand in the city, a long-distance bus down to Dresden, and finally the same little S-Bahn I left on two and a half weeks ago, running the other way.
The trip was never only about reaching Montenegro — it’s about getting back to Pirna in one piece: a bit browner, a bit better at kiting, dignity mostly intact, kettle on within ten minutes of the front door.
The last train, the front door, the unpacking, and the first cup of tea at home all go here once I’m actually standing in the kitchen.
